About Us
Families Talking is a not-for-profit organisation providing family support services since 1980.
We hold the Legal Services Commission Quality Mark and abide by the national Code of Practice set by National Family Mediation, so you can be assured of benefiting from a high quality service backed up with over 30 years of experience.
Our vision is "to help create stronger communities where all families experiencing separation or divorce are supported to be able to positively manage change, maintain healthy relationships and put the needs of children first."
We are not part of the courts or social care, neither are we about relationship counselling, but we help people to make sensible decisions for the future without the need to go to court.
We do not give legal advice, but can help you to obtain such advice appropriately and at the best time for you and your family.
We are one of around 50 services linked to National Family Mediation (NFM) which produces policies, standards and a Code of Practice, which Families Talking strives to meet. A copy is available upon request. This is also commensurate with the Standards of the Family Mediation Council, of which all our mediators are members.
As an NFM service, we aim to offer:
- A focus on children
- Joint decision making
- A voluntary service – anyone can withdraw from mediation at any time
- A Confidential service
- Mediation that aims to improve communication as well as settlement
- A professional, sensitive and understanding approach
- A service accessible to all cultures and communities
- A quality assured service in a safe and supportive environment
- Impartiality
