Costs & Legal Aid

The Statutory Charge - You need to know this!

When using a solicitor, The Statutory Charge is what you will have to pay back to the Legal Services Commission (the government) if you gain financially from your divorce settlement. BUT this does not apply to mediation, AND if you come to mediation at an early stage before the need for legal proceedings, you will not have to pay the Statutory Charge for your solicitor's work either.

Mediation saves you money

Initial assessment meetings are without any obligation or commitment to go ahead with mediation. We will normally assess you to see if you are eligible for Legal Aid to cover the full costs so we will ask you to provide evidence of income.

If you are not eligible, there is a sliding scale of fees limited to residual income which we will calculate with you during the initial meeting. You can click here to see the current sliding scale of charges.
