Families Talking Families Talking Mediation Benefits Everyone

Types of Mediation

Families Talking offers three types of mediation, all provided in a neutral and safe setting where couples can be supported in making sensible decisions for the future:

1. Child Only Mediation deals with problems relating to children and their relationships with parents and other family members covering:

  • Residence
  • Contact arrangements
  • Parental responsibility
  • Child support
  • Differences in parenting style
  • Communication between parents

Usually 2 x 1 hour sessions are expected.

At the end of mediation we will draw up your Agreement so that your solicitor can complete any necessary legal work.

2. All-Issues Mediation (AIM) covers disputes including:

  • Financial support
  • The family home
  • Savings, debts and pensions
  • Arrangements for children

AIM also helps you prepare information and documents for your solicitor's legal work.

Usually appointments take between 1.5hrs to 2hrs and people usually need 3 – 5 sessions.

In Child-only and AIM Mediation you will also be asked if you would like your child to have the opportunity to talk to a mediator to discuss their own concerns. This happens only with the consent of both parents and the child. It would normally consist of one appointment with the child from which the child's concerns could be relayed back to the parents should the child wish this to happen.

3. Property & Finance Mediation deals purely with financial issues for couples without children or with adult children.
